In Homoeopathy, there is one drug named CONIUM which is effective in cases of malignant cancer. It is useful when there is a gangrene, concealed cancer of bone, cancerous swelling and induration of glands, cancer of lips, spreading cancerous ulcer on the face, cancerous ulcer after contusion.

I treated one case of brain tumour of 45 year old lady, where the patient had a very bad pulsating headache, with intolerable pain and it was not relieved by any pain killer drug. After understanding her case, I gave her Conium 30 frequently during pain and she felt much better. The medicine was able to control growth of tumor and meanwhile she was surgically treated and then survived.

Pyorrhoea is a inflammation of the gums and alveolus. It may spread to surrounding parts of gums. There is a swelling and pain in gums. The breath may be ofensive and pus may generate.

2. Carbo veg: It is given for painful and sensitive gums when there is dificulty in chewing.

3. Causticum: When there is facial paralysis, painful and loose teeth, and burning pain in lower molar extending to nose and eyes.

Chicken pox

Chickenpox

It is a viral disease caused by exposure to the varicella zoster virus.

The virus spreads through air-borne droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also spreads by direct contact since the lesions contain infectious fluid.

Symptoms:
The rash first appears over the face, scalp or trunk.
The rash initially consists of red/purple coloured bumped lesions which evolve into lesions filled with a clear fluid.
The lesions then form a crust after 4-5 days of appearance.
The crusts fall off after a week or two.
The rash is itchy and cause irritation.
Other symptoms: fever, nausea, anorexia, body ache, vomiting etc.

Complications:
Secondary bacterial infection affecting the skin lesions is the commonest complication among children.

Treatment:
Paracetamol can be given to control fever.
Itching can be controlled by calamine lotion.
Nails should be trimmed to reduce the damage done by scratching.
The affected child should be bathed daily.

Vaccination

A vaccine containing a live attenuated strain of varicella is available.

Quit smoking

Smoking
Smoking is a major cause of heart and blood vessel disease. Overall, smokers experience a 70 percent greater death rate from heart and blood vessel disease than non-smokers; and heavy smokers (two or more packs per day) have a death rate two to three times greater than non-smokers. Inhaling cigarette smoke produces temporary effects on the heart and blood vessels.

Quit smoking

No cigarettes are considered safe. Many smokers who have switched to low tar and low nicotine cigarettes smoke more or inhale more deeply to make up for the decreased nicotine. By inhaling more deeply, smokers may increase their risk of disease.

Once you quit smoking, the risk of heart and blood vessel disease gradually decreases.

High blood pressure

High blood pressure

Blood pressure is the force of your blood against the walls of your arteries. Normally, arteries are muscular and elastic. They stretch and contract as blood goes through them.

Your blood pressure consists of two numbers. The top reading is the systolic pressure – when your heart is contracting, the bottom number is the diastolic pressure – when the heart is relaxing. If your blood pressure consistently runs 140/90 or more, you may have hypertension (high blood pressure).

High blood pressure may increase the possibility of strokes due to damage to the blood vessels that lead to the brain: it may cause kidney damage, congestive heart failure: and may increase your risk for coronary artery disease.

Depression

Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by sadness, loss of interest in activities and by decreased energy. Depression is differentiated from normal mood changes by the extent of its severity, the symptoms and the duration of the disorder. It is estimated that 5-10% of the population at any given time is suffering from identifiable depression need psychiatric treatment or psychosocial intervention. The life-time risk of developing depression is 10-20% in females and slightly less in males.

Symptoms
Depressed mood
Loss of interest and enjoyment
Reduced energy, being easily fatigued, diminished activity
Marked tiredness on slight effort
Reduced concentration and attention on a task
Reduced confidence and self-esteem
Feeling of guilt and unworthiness
Bleak and pessimistic views of the future
Ideas or acts of self-destruction or suicide
Disturbed sleep
Diminished appetite and libido
Unexplained physical symptoms

Why do people get depression?
Depression is a complex disorder which can manifest itself under a variety of circumstances and due to a multiplicity of factors. The biopsychosocial model is useful to understand the causation of depression where biological (genetic and biochemical), sociological (stressors) and psychological (development and life experiences) factors interact to produce a picture of depression. Research during the last 50 years indicates that there is no single factor which can explain the cause for depression.

What the family can do
The role of the family in looking after a depressed person cannot be overemphasized. The family can provide help and support in the following ways:
By early appreciation / recognition of onset of depression;
By helping the patients to start treatment at an appropriate facility, and helping them to continue with the treatment;
By providing adequate supervision and support to minimize the risk of suicide;
By helping the patients to resume their activities and role in life on recovery, and
By getting all the necessary guidance and information to prevent further recurrence.

Nutrition- fat

FAT
The energy value of fats is 9 kcal/gram (kilocalories per gram), which supplies the body with important sources of calories. Calories are units of energy. The breaking of bonds within fat molecules releases energy that the body uses. A kilocalorie is the unit used to measure the energy in foods. It is the equivalent of "calories" listed on Nutrition Facts labels on food packaging.
Some of the foods known to contain large amounts of fat include the obvious examples, such as butter on toast, fried foods, and hamburgers. But many of the foods that people consume on a daily basis have hidden sources of fat that may not be obvious to the person eating them. These foods include cookies and cakes, cheese, ice cream, potato chips, and hot dogs. One way to avoid foods that contain high amounts of fat is to look at the Nutrition Facts label located on the packages of most foods, where the total fat content of the food is listed.
Actual intake of fat can vary from 10 percent to 40 percent of the calories consumed daily, depending on personal or cultural regimens. Limiting one's daily fat intake to less than 30 percent of total calorie intake and increasing consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids have been shown to be beneficial in maintaining a healthful diet.

Nutrition

WATER
Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. Blood is mostly water, and your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of water. Your body needs water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to all your organs. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs.

What is Homoeopathy?

Homoeopathy is a healing therapy with a holistic approach. Homoeopathy is both- scientific as well as artistic mode of treatment. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann MD-Medicine (1755-1843), of Germany discovered it in 1796. The word “Homoeo” means “similar” and “pathy” means “suffering.” So, it can be described as a remedy that is a kin to malady. In this case, poisonous substances are availed of to cure poisonous diseases. Dr. Hahnemann and his followers performed very many experiments on their own selves to have a personal experience of the effect of various plants, chemicals, diseased substances etc.

# The opinion of experts is that the obese person should not eat for more than 3 times.
# To get relief from the suffering due to hunger, one can also drink warm water having lemon juice in it.
# It is essential to take the evening meal early. After an hour of the evening meal, walk for about 1 – ½ (one to one and a half) miles.
