Pyorrhoea is a inflammation of the gums and alveolus. It may spread to surrounding parts of gums. There is a swelling and pain in gums. The breath may be ofensive and pus may generate.

X-ray examination will reveal the destruction of the periodontal membrane and the alveolus.

In Homoeopathy, there are many drugs to treat this condition. Few are described here:

1. Aurum met: This medicine stops tissue destruction and found useful in caries and necrosis of the nasal palatine and mastoid bones.

2. Carbo veg: It is given for painful and sensitive gums when there is dificulty in chewing.

3. Causticum: When there is facial paralysis, painful and loose teeth, and burning pain in lower molar extending to nose and eyes.

4. Merc. vivus: This medicine is helpful when there is metallic taste , lot of salivation, spongy gums, tender teeth, alveolar abscess, and fetid odor from mouth.

There are also other Homoeopathic drugs which are very useful in this condition:

Nitric acid, Silicea, Staphysagria, etc.
